Visiting Hours

You may visit your pet after a surgical procedure which requires extended hospitalization. If your pet will be returning home the same day we kindly request that you wait for your pet to be ready to go home before arriving to the clinic. This allows us to closely monitor your pet during the recovery period and thus ensuring his/her readiness to return home after a procedure.

Allergic Reactions

Animals, like people can have allergic reactions. When an animal is in an allergic state his/her immune system is reacting to an allergen. Some common allergens are pollen, food, fleas or dust mites. This reaction produces an immunological response such as itching, sneezing, runny nose, red eyes, etc.

If your pet is showing symptoms which you think may be related to allergies there are tests and treatments available at Cabinet Vétérinaire.

Lyme disease

Lyme disease is a tick transmitted bacterial infection which can cause different symptoms. Some symptoms may include joint pain, anorexia and lethargy. You should check your pets body frequently for any attached ticks and remove them right away. The best way to prevent this disease is to avoid tick infestations and to vaccinate. There is a vaccine available for Lyme disease at Cabinet Vétérinaire.

It is especially important to note that Switzerland experienced a warmer than normal winter which can lead to a greater tick population in the summer months.

Diarrhea

Diarrhea is a symptom of a problem rather than a disease. There are many things that can cause diarrhea such as diet, parasites, virus or bacteria. Diarrhea often requires a consultation by your veterinarian to make a proper diagnosis.

The following questions may help you determine if your pet requires veterinary care:

Vomiting

Like diarrhea, vomiting is a symptom of a problem rather than a disease. If your pet is vomiting and the vomiting is accompanied by any of the following, it is important that you contact Cabinet Vétérinaire to schedule an appointment so that a proper diagnosis and treatment can be administered.

Scooting

If you notice your pet is "scooting" or "dragging" his/her bottom across the floor, grass or your favorite rug, this is most likely due to bothersome anal glands. These glands or sacs can become inflamed, infected or impacted. If your pet is exhibiting this "scooting" behavior please contact the office for a consultation. There are other possible causes for this behavior such as perianal tumor, diarrhea or parasites which should be ruled out as well. It is important that you bring your pet in for a diagnosis and proper treatment.

When to Call for Emergency Care

Should your pet require urgent medical attention outside of normal office hours, please leave a message on our emergency phone line and a member of the staff will return your call right away. Be sure that your return phone number is not "blocked" and that your phone line is available after leaving your message; if your phone number is "blocked" or your line is not available, it will be impossible for the doctor to return your call.

Should you need to schedule an appointment or you have a non-urgent question please call the office during regular business hours.

Dr Omaboe received his Veterinary degree from the University of Bern, Switzerland. He completed his residency in Diagnostic Pathology at the University of Bern, where he later served as Assistant in Clinical Neurology. Additional professional degrees and training include:

At Cabinet Vétérinaire we believe that often the best medicine is preventative medicine. As humans we know it's important for each of us to visit the dentist once a year and to have annual physical examinations. Did you know that your pet also requires routine health exams? Additionally, senior pets, like senior people, may need additional preventative care.

Remember, dogs age much faster than humans, so a once-yearly exam is similar to a human getting a physical every 5-7 years. Heures de Visite

Vous pouvez rendre visite à votre animal lors de la période postopératoire pour autant que l'hospitalisation soit prolongée. Toutefois si la durée d'hospitalisation de votre animal se limite à quelques heures et qu'il rentre à la maison le jour même, nous vous prions gentiment de patienter et d'attendre que votre compagnon soit prêt à réintégrer votre foyer avant de vous rendre au cabinet vétérinaire. Ceci afin de nous permettre de contrôler de près son réveil et ainsi de nous assurer qu'il soit en bonne condition pour son retour chez vous.

Réactions Allergiques

Les animaux, tout comme les êtres humains peuvent souffrir de réactions allergiques. Quand un animal est dans un état allergique son système immunitaire répond à un allergène. Les allergènes les plus courants sont les pollens, la nourriture, les puces ou les acariens. Cette réaction déclenche des réponses immunitaires telles que démangeaisons, éternuements, écoulement nasal, yeux rouges, etc.

Si votre compagnon manifeste des symptômes que vous suspectez être éventuellement de nature allergique, des examens ainsi que des traitements sont disponibles au Cabinet Vétérinaire.

La Maladie de Lyme

La maladie de Lyme est une infection bactérienne transmise par les tiques. Elle peut présenter différents symptômes : douleurs articulaires, anorexie (perte d'appétit) et léthargie (faiblesse). Nous vous recommandons d'examiner fréquemment et attentivement votre animal pour repérer la présence d'éventuelles tiques qui devront alors être extraites immédiatement. La meilleure prévention contre cette maladie est d'éviter toute infestation de tiques ainsi que la vaccination. Nous disposons d'un vaccin contre la maladie de Lyme au Cabinet Vétérinaire.

Il est important de noter que la Suisse a subi un hiver plus chaud que d'habitude ce qui peut engendrer une plus grande population de tiques lors des mois d'été.

Diarrhée

La diarrhée est un symptôme plutôt qu'une maladie. Les causes de diarrhée sont nombreuses et peuvent être entre autres de nature: alimentaire, parasitaire, virale ou bactérienne. La diarrhée exige souvent une consultation vétérinaire afin de poser un diagnostic approprié.

Les questions suivantes peuvent aider à déterminer si votre animal nécessite des soins vétérinaires :

Vomissements

« Faire le traîneau »

Si vous remarquez que votre animal «fait le traîneau» ou « traîne » son arrière-train sur le plancher, l'herbe ou votre tapis préféré, ceci est vraisemblablement dû à un problème de glandes anales. Ces glandes peuvent s'enflammer, s'infecter ou s'obstruer. Ce comportement peut aussi avoir d'autres origines, telles qu'une tumeur péri anale, diarrhée, parasites. Lorsqu'un animal «fait le traîneau», il est important qu'un diagnostic soit posé et il est recommandé de fixer un rendez-vous pour une consultation.

Lorsque votre animal nécessite des soins médicaux urgents en dehors des heures d'ouvertures, veuillez laisser un message sur notre service d'urgence et un membre de notre personnel vous rappellera immédiatement. Prenez soin de ne pas appeler à partir d'un numéro de téléphone « bloqué ou anonyme» et à ce que votre ligne téléphonique soit disponible après avoir laissé votre message. Si votre numéro de téléphone est « bloqué ou anonyme» ou votre ligne n'est pas disponible, il sera impossible de vous rappeler.
